Kunming Takeoff
Kunming Takeoff

A P-40B of the American Volunteer Group taxis for takeoff at Kunming Airfield, while a P-40E circles overhead waiting for his wingman to get airborne.  The AVG was instrumental in stemming the Japanese advance into southern China, though equipped with aircraft that were already becoming obsolete.

Tiger's Dream
Tiger's Dream

This never happened.  Although every pilot in the Flying Tigers dreamed of having a go at the Mitsubishi A6M zero, Japan's most famous fighter, they never had the chance.  The zero was never assigned to the Southern Chinese theatre.  This picture is in homage to the "Gung Ho" spirit of that untruly band of Americans who chose to fought before the US officially entered the war.
